ESSEX RACING CLUB TWO YEAR-OLD HAS PROMISING DEBUT AT GOODWOOD

The Algarve Bloodstock-Managed Essex Racing Club had its' first two year-old runner of the season at sun-drenched Goodwood today when BERMACHA, the Bertolini filly out of the broodmare Machaera, ran in a six furlong Maiden Fillies Race.

The filly, purchased for the Club at the Doncaster Yearling Sales by Barry Root, ran a promising race, finishing well in 5th position after a slightly hesitant start, and both trainer William Muir and jockey Steve Drowne were well pleased with the way she handled her first outing. The race was won by the Mick Channon-trained Johar Jamal, with the club's newcomer only about four lengths back, well ahead of the Brian Meehan-trained favourite Twilight Belle. An encouraging start for our new filly.
